Strategic Aspiration

Development of the Growth Management and Housing Strategy aligns with the Our Liveability theme of Council’s Strategic Plan to have 'Our built environment balances the need for progress, with respect for our environment and heritage."

Housing Support Program

Mid Murray Council received funding toward the project as part of the Federal Government’s $1.5 billion Housing Support Program which is one of a range of measures designed to help achieve the National Housing Accord's target of building 1.2 million new, well-located homes over five years from 1 July 2024.

Purpose of the Strategy

The Mid Murray Growth Management and Housing Strategy provides a framework for land use planning, infrastructure investment, and service provision within the Mid Murray Council area.  It supports Council, State Government, businesses, and the community in achieving sustainable growth by leveraging the region’s strengths its idyllic landscapes, natural resources, productive land, resilient communities, and available infrastructure.

Community-Driven Planning

The Strategy was developed through an iterative process involving stakeholder and community engagement.  Contributors provided insights, challenged assumptions with evidence and analysis, and tested ideas with the broader community.  Community feedback emphasised the need for improvements to infrastructure i.e. roads, open spaces, recreation facilities, utilities as well as community services.
