Completed! Automation of 10 Standpipes

Ten standpipes across the Mid Murray district have been automated to provide ongoing public access to water, thanks to government and private funding.

A $207,500 grant from Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) through its Strengthening Industries Program will fund the automation of standpipes at Blanchetown, Cambrai, Morgan, Sedan, Stonefield and Truro. A further two standpipes, at Swan Reach and Halfway House, have been automated thanks to a $69,000 grant through the State Government’s 2025 Publicly Accessible Standpipe Upgrade Fund.

Further private sector funding contributions have also been made to automate the Palmer and Summerfield standpipes by energy companies Tilt Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Summerfield Battery Project.

Access Card Application Form & Automation Set Up Account Process

Access cards can be applied for, through the Application Form - linked here. The Application Form payments can be made either over the counter at any Council Office or over the phone on 08 8569 0100. Note; Proof of ID and property ownership within the Mid Murray Council is required upon applying otherwise the Non-Resident fee will be charged.

Due to this upgrade, keys will no longer be required to access the water delivery stations. To access water at the stations, the users will be required to set up a PayPal account linked to an Access Card. Please find “how to guide” on this process to create your account - linked here.  The new water delivery stations will also have new “How To Use” instructions on each facility for users.

Automation Facility Infrastructure User Requirements

All users of the new automated water delivery stations will need to access the facility utilizing their own hose connections. The new facilities will have both a 80mm and a 50mm camlock, male fitting at each site for the hoses to connect to. Please ensure you bring your hose, with a female connection installed each time you utilize the automated facility. For more information on requirements, please visit the fact sheet linked here.

Swan Reach & Ring Road, Morgan Standpipe Users - Please note:

Please note that the Morgan and Swan Reach sites will be relocated as part of the upgrade. The new location for Swan Reach water delivery station is going to be moved further up from the current location by approximately 10 to 15 meters to provide better accessibility from the adjacent private driveway. The Morgan water delivery station is proposed to be relocated (pending SA Water approval) from its current location on Ring Road, Morgan to Goyder Highway, Morgan * for localised access to the Morgan township as the below image:

Standpipe General Information

To enable access to non-potable water for community members, there are a number of standpipes and automated water delivery stations located throughout the Mid Murray Council area.

Any damage, misuse or vandalism to the standpipe or automated water delivery station infrastructure may result in the closure and removal of the facility.
