Reconciliation

Reconciliation is more than a word. Reconciliation takes action.

The Mid Murray Council recognises our region’s rich Aboriginal heritage and culture, and is working towards reconciliation to build stronger, more meaningful relationships with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Reconciliation is about Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians talking, walking, and working together to overcome the reasons for division and inequality between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians.

Reconciliation is a nationally recognised approach to:

  • Recognising and celebrating the importance of Aboriginal culture and contributions
  • Building and strengthening our engagement with the Aboriginal community
  • Acknowledging the impact of the past for Aboriginal people
  • Building a shared future together

Our first step in this process is to begin implementing our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.

Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan provides a framework of practical action to work towards reconciliation and better acknowledgement of the valuable histories, connections to Country and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples throughout our district.

It’s also about building relationships across our community that truly value our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, their histories, cultures and – importantly – their futures.
