Rate Capping Rebate

What Is The Rebate?

A rebate is provided by the Mid Murray Council to provide relief against what would otherwise amount to a substantial change in rates payable by a ratepayer due to rapid changes in valuations, or anomalies in valuations.  The effect of the rebate is to limit any general rate increase to 20% of the general rates raised for 2023/2024.

Objection to Valuation

To object to your Valuation you must lodge an application with the Office of the Valuer General (contact details are on the back of your rates notice). This form is to be used only to apply for a rate capping rebate and not to object to your Valuation.

If you intend to object to your valuation please submit your rate capping rebate application after the Office of the Valuer General has notified you of the outcome of your objection. If your objection to Valuation is successful and you have already applied for and have been granted a rate capping rebate by the Mid Murray Council, your rebate will be recalculated. Please Note: all rate capping rebate applications must be received by the Mid Murray Council by the 15 March, 2024.

You May Be Eligible For The Rate Capping Rebate If…

…your general rates (excluding CWMS Charge, Water Supply Charge, Multi Access TV Charge, Mannum Waters Separate Rate, Regional Landscape Levy, Domestic Waste/Recycling Bin Service Charge) have increased by more than 20% on the amount levied last year and that this increase is not as a result of:

  • Building improvements made to the land (as determined by the Office of the Valuer General), or
  • Change of land use of the land, or
  • Rezoning of the land, or
  • Ownership of the land has not changed since the 1 July 2022.

To check if you are eligible for a rate capping rebate please complete the steps on the back of this form. If you are eligible, complete the bottom portion of this form and return to the Mid Murray Council.

IMPORTANT

Please do not delay payment past 8 September 2023, while awaiting approval of the rebate. A refund will be made if necessary, at a later date.

Application for a rebate must be received by Council by 15 March 2024
